Below you will find a list of Indigenous and holistic based in-patient and out-patient treatment centres located in Saskatchewan.

Cree Nations Treatment Haven invites individuals on a personal journey to rediscover life, free from alcohol, drugs, and other addictive, compulsive behaviours. Guests are invited into a caring, nurturing environment where they can begin to take responsibility for themselves in a community atmosphere, where trust, confidence, self-esteem and respect are the primary focus.

Cree Nations Treatment Haven offers a variety of different programming. These programs include residential inpatient, Matrix, and Opioid Treatment Program.

Addictions Programs

Our goal is to provide a collaborative and excellent service to our highly valued clients. We offer three pathways that may be recommended for any identified clients based on needs.

 

Inpatient treatment

*Apply in person or by referral

Treatment period depends on the treatment center – usually 1-6 weeks
Certificate of completion may be given by the treatment center

 

Community Addictions Recovery Group (CARG)  

*Apply in person or by referral

Weekly meetings – check the Addiction programs calendar per community (call and ask)

CARG recovery group treatment period depends on the client’s needs and the assigned group.
Attendance is strictly recommended – three (3) unexcused absences may lead to discontinuation, a re-enrollment into the program, and or recommendation for another pathway.
Certificate of completion is presented following the successful completion of the program.

MATRIX Program
Health literacy and education on addiction prevention and management.

*Apply in person, self-referral, and by referral

Individual and group sessions.
One on one outpatient treatment program.

A structured treatment program that provides information and support in structuring a substance – free lifestyle. For sixteen weeks, individuals attend several Intensive Outpatient Treatment sessions (receive treatment without stay, able to function and live your life).

Provides an intensive 6 week holistic treatment specializing in trauma and abuse.

Eligibility
– First Nations adults 18 years of age or older.
– Must be abstinent from alcohol and drugs for at least 5 days or attend detox services prior to admission
– Stable mental health (Psychiatric medications should have been taken for at least 6 months)
– No active TB
– Must NOT have any legal appointments or court appearances within the 6 week period of treatment
– Have a genuine desire to be there for 6 weeks and have the willingness to quit substance abuse.

Residential Treatment Program

Leading Thunderbird Lodge provides a 16 week culturally based residential treatment program for First Nations and Inuit male youth from across Canada who are between 12-17 years. The holistic treatment program provides personal development in the four areas of self; spiritual, physical, emotional, and mental well-being.

Pekiwewin House

Pekiwewin (Coming Home) House provides selected graduates of the 16 week residential treatment program with an opportunity to continue and complete their secondary education, gain work experience and enhance their life skills. Residents will continue their healing journey supported by cultural teachings and programming.

Besides being recent treatment graduates, youth residents of the house must be between 16 – 25 years and have a minimum of a grade 9 education level.

Outreach

• Offers substance abuse workshops and suicide prevention workshops (Life is Sacred).
• Provide assistance with application process, pre-treatment intake, post-treatment follow-up.
• Outreach is responsible for seeking referrals for programming through marketing efforts (conferences, community visits, site tours, etc.)
• Outreach provides educational and awareness presentations to communities (staff and students) on addictions and suicide prevention and a new focus on prescription drug abuse.

The Treatment Program is a 42-day residential treatment program that focuses on helping the individual towards acceptance of responsibility for their thoughts, actions and behaviors. Recognition of self-worth and personal potential is an essential component of the program. We encourage participation in treatment activities with a goal of strengthening our nations against alcoholism and drug addiction.

The Treatment Centre is designed to meet the needs of Indigenous female youth between the ages of 12 and 17, who are involved with drugs/alcohol and inhalant misuse, and who are experiencing related problem areas.

The program is based on a holistic treatment model using the four cornerstones of treatment: spiritual, emotional, physical and mental, as well as using the concept of “living therapy” where by treatment is integrated into all interactions in which the youth participate.
